U.S. Exports to our Latin American Free Trade Agreement (FTA) partners (Those whose FTAs are in force: Chile, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua) grew 20 percent from 2005 to 2006, significantly faster than the 14 percent increase in our exports to the world.

Nineteen states exported more than $20 million in goods to Peru in 2006. Ten of these states exported goods worth more than $50 million, and five exported merchandise worth more than $100 million.

U.S. small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are taking advantage of U.S. efforts to open markets throughout the world. In 2005, more than 90 percent of all U.S. companies that export to our NAFTA partner Canada were SMEs.

Latin America is an important export market for U.S. small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In 2005, SMEs generated 41 percent of known U.S. merchandise exports to the region, well above the world average of 29 percent.
