Bush: Congress Needs to Open New Markets for Trade and Investment

Washington (Nov. 6)—At the White House Forum on International Trade and Investment, President Bush called on Congress to open new markets for trade and investment by approving free trade agreements with Peru, Colombia, Panama and South Korea. He said, “We've negotiated fair agreements, and now it's up to the Congress, it's time for the Congress to pass these trade agreements to help build a hemisphere that lives in liberty, and trades in freedom, and grows in prosperity. These trade bills are important economic measures, and they are important national security measures, as well.” (Remarks)

Gutierrez Outlines Need to Expand Trade While Increasing Security

Washington (Nov. 1)—Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez kicked off the two-day Update 2007 Conference on Export Controls and Policy hosted by the Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security. At the 20th anniversary conference, the Secretary outlined the Bush administration’s focus of increasing global markets and expanding trade, while ensuring that the export of sensitive materials is done in a responsible, secure manner. (Remarks)
